Our Contract

107 rats adopted, other rodents even more!

Those still in our care are already success stories - they just need completion by adoption into a permanent home.

April - July

  • Sicero, Brunette, Blondie, and Magenta are again all four together - first Sicero and Brunette were adopted by me, then Blondie and Magenta came back. Bess and Pipsqueak are the last two foster girlies I have, and I am fine with keeping them, too.
  • Truffle and Pickles, two guinea pig boys, were adopted by their foster family
  • T-Bone the angora Syrian hamster moved to Ottawa to live in the same home as Alain-Antoine (formerly Sergei, the dwarf hammie)

March

  • Beast, who'd been staying with his younger brothers at Evelynne's, had been neutered at Vanier Vet Tech, so he went to live with Annie and Abbie (formerly Honeydew and Butternut).

February

  • Nanuk, a little blue dumbo who was turned into us after having been found out in the snow, was treated for frostbite on all his paws and tail, which had to be docked. He was adopted right away by a Hamilton teenager. Thanks to everyone who followed his story!
  • Linus and his older agouti-hooded brother Richard were adopted by Jeremy, who found us when he was in Japan.
  • Brad (beige), Hamster (Frank, agouti tailless boy), and (temporarily placed) Beast, their older agouti brother (littermate to Jeremy's agouti boy), were adopted by Evelynne, who had cared for them at Vanier Vet Tech.
  • Bess's four boys were adopted into two homes: Vanessa adopted a himi and a himi dumbo baby, and Robin adopted a himi and a black berk.
  • Columbia and Janet, two of Sicero's daughters (blonde girls), were adopted into a home where they were befriending an older single female. This home supports Quebec Rabbit Rescue, too!

January 2007

  • The five goons, Pogo, Quinzy, Callipso, Moët, and Fromage, were adopted into a home that had been eyeing them for a while. Although five is an intimidating number to most people, these were such easy-going, fun boys that it made it a little easier!

November

  • A himilayan dumbo boy, Mikey, was welcomed into his new home with Bruiser, a rat we rescued and placed right away from the Laval SPCA. CongRATulations, boys and Tracy!
  • Many ratties and a few others have come into the rescue over the past six weeks, including Mama Sicero and her two litters of babies. Two of her four sons, a blond hooded and an agouti-hooded boy, were adopted at our adoption clinic on November 25. Four remain of that group, and the new litter has 9!
  • Lala was also adopted into a home to befriend an elderly female, Chausette.

September

  • Merlin and Houdini, two degus, found their new home
  • 4 gerbils found a new home through us, too

August

  • Honeydew and Butternut have joined Dee Dee and Franklin at their home!
  • Bernadette joined two girls, Zara (another one!) and Snowbell at their new home. That Bernadette is a cancer survivor was a key element of her adoption!
  • Otto, Odie, and Oscar the hamsters were adopted by their foster family.
  • Toupie and Peanut the guinea pigs found their forever home - and their mom dotes on them so much!
  • Cantaloupe joined Zara and Cleo, two girl ratties, at their home
  • Ally joined Junie at her home

May

  • Stella, Robinne, and Rosemarie were adopted into a home along with Ginger and Tangerine, and three other of our protegés that we never advertised: Sunny, Virginia, and Fastboy. They are all very happy to be together in a nice, air-conditioned Martin's Ruud palace in time for summer!
  • Sandy was adopted by her foster home, and two other girls who would have been homeless due to a move came in to live with her. She is the alpha!

April

  • On Easter weekend, we had a good adoption run to Ontario, where the mice Squeek, Spot, Max and Min were adopted, as well as Aidan & Steve and Bill & Vincent. Also, Gloria & Edith were returned to New Brunswick where they have an excellent home waiting for them, and Sergei the dwarf hamster continued on to Nova Scotia. Amidst all this transporting, 13 other ratties from New Brunswick went to various homes in Ontario, and a bunny from Montreal went to Fredericton.
  • Dawn joined Punaise in the Hawkesbury grotto (see November, 2005). RIP Moustacha.
  • George (papa lab rat) joined two little boys in Ottawa. We hope he will guide them through life on how to be a good alpha rat.

February

  • Paco's foster family told us unequivocally to take Paco off our list of prospective adoptees, he's not going anywhere. This is a rat who thinks he's human. And he is treated accordingly!
  • A grad student in Anthropology and her boyfriend went to the SPCA to adopt Carl, and also adopted Marco and Pirate to befriend him. Pirate's brother Doorman went along for the ride, so he could report back to his brothers what fun Marco and Pirate's new condo is.

January 2006

  • Bouffe, a big girl hamster went to her new home, where she'll have the run of two Habitrails and all the accessories. She will be well loved there!
  • Grover went to his new home early in the month. He will be a solitary rat for the most part, but will get a lot of freerange, which he is used to. He's a great independent boy who likes to chase and scare other rats, anyway.
  • Marvin and Jimmy were adopted by the family of the founder of Animatch, where they have a palatial cage! They are happy, chubby, bruxy boys who like to give kisses and then some - Marvin's nickname is "The Dentist."
  • Fadi and George, dwarf himilayan bunnies whose mom was found abandoned on a country road in Ontario, have been adopted into a good, experienced bunny home. The couple are thrilled to have adopted them as a pair - and so are we! (Their brothers in Ontario, Pointy and Shorty, were adopted in February).

December

  • Spook went to her new home in Ottawa, where Giboulée and Frimas happily live. RIP Giboulée, who died of old age on December 31.

November

  • Moustacha and her sister Punaise were adopted by a kind family in Hawkesbury. They live in a large Grotto cage!
  • Franklin has been a kissy, affectionate protegé here. He has been adopted to go with DeeDee, who is further down this page.
  • Marsellus, one of Ivy's boys, was adopted and neutered to be with another neutered boy and girl. His new mom looooves him so much! He was returned shortly afterward for having a fight with his cagemates.

October

  • We had no rats adopted in the month of October. However, we've decided to keep the five lab boys except if specifically requested (except if Marco and Pirate can be adopted with one of them for extra company) because they are too skittish for the average adopter; Polly has also been taken in permanently as she is fully integrated with permanent residents and she is a difficult integrator. We also took in some more permanent residents from other rescue situations!

September

  • Victor and Hugo have been adopted into a home that fulfills their every desire to live a free-range life. These big, well-behaved boys (for the most part, except for Victor's alpha posturing!) will be happy playing tag and snuggling all over their new apartment.
  • Deiter, of Toronto, found a home for his 4 rats through the Canada Rat Adoption list (not included in the count above).

August

  • Melissa, of Kitchener, reported that the Canada page of this site helped her find homes for her 5 boys (not included in the count above).
  • Madame was adopted to join her daughters Estelle, Janna, and Genie. Madame will be missed by her foster family, but excited to see her daughters again!
  • Erma and her sister Estelle have been adopted into a good home. Yay, girls! They've been renamed Fugue and Tocata.
  • Capucine and Rosie are absolutely adored by their foster family, where they'll be staying for good! When they started having dominance issues, Vanilla came to be their peacekeeper. They are now a happy trio. Returned with all fosters by the foster family in July 2006.

July

  • I finally decided that, after almost a year and no interest in Laurel and Sprite (one prospective adopter met them for five minutes and literally fled), I will keep them forever. Sprite is one of those "plain" PEWs that certain people will never appreciate for their personalities, and Laurel is not exactly a cuddly companion animal - she is an adventurous scamp whom I have to chase down at the end of every freerange period. But just so everyone knows the opportunity they missed, look at her here.

June

  • Madame's sons, Remy (agouti) and Oliver (black hooded), were adopted into the same great home as Bibitte, in Ontario.
  • Beatrich, Marona, and Flonne, Ivy's daughters, were adopted. They live in a Grotto mansion.
  • Madame's sons, beige and agouti-hooded, were named Steve and Aidan respectively. They have joined Mr. Big in their new home.
  • Madame's daughters Estelle, Janna, and Genie were adopted into the same good home.
  • Madame's daughter Soleil and Olive's daughter Balsam were adopted into the same home as Apostrophe from last July. Apostrophe was so cute, hanging off the bars of her cage in anticipation of her new friends!
  • Ivy's daughters, Schissophrénie (white), and Betty (black) were adopted to their foster mom's friend and favourite pet sitter. Yay, girls!
  • Olive the lab rat and one of her daughters, Basilica, were adopted into a home to befriend a lonely black-hooded girl.

May

  • Ivy, the mom of one litter of babies, was adopted by her foster mom to befriend her alpha girl. One son, Julius (white), and daughter, Mia (beige), will permanently live with Ivy after their brothers and sisters are gone. Julius is being neutered in June.
  • Bleu, Zorro, and No Name, three lab boys who are five months old, were adopted by their fosterer.
  • Beastie and Brousbrous went to a young professional couple, whose home has hosted rats for five years!
  • DeeDee went to her lovely new home - she will be living with Virginia (Velvet Ears), who was adopted in December.

April

  • Two beige female mice were adopted into the same home as Samuel François Souris. They've been named SamnErica. Eventually their mom will figure out which one is Sam and which one Erica!
  • A beige 2-year-old girl and her baby PEW girl companion have been named Giboulée (Gigi) and Frimas. They have been adopted into a great home in Ottawa. (Their new keeper is our french translator!)

March

  • A beige girl, 9 months old and very gentle, was paired with a baby lab girl. They went to their new home in Fredericton, NB, where they were named Tempestatum (Tempe for short) and Nubium.
  • Popeye's sons Darwin and Freud (now Demon and Cesar) found a great new family, who baked them cookies and built them a custom cage. Everything was ready for them when they arrived, and Darwin loved his new hammock!

February

  • Lucky's previous owners surrendered him to a pet shop in St.-Hyacinthe, where he was found by a local girl. We assessed his health, and she took him back home to foster him. One of her friends who's never had rats before fell in love.
  • She then adopted Popeye, our daddy lab rat, to be his friend (his name is now Georges).

January 2005

We were written up in a rather fun article in a special issue of the Montreal Mirror. Check it out!

  • Martine made permanent room for Juliette, the PEW special-needs girl, in her mischief. (April update: she came live with me and another special-needs rescue girl, Pamplemousse)
  • Jack, a black-hooded healthy boy, arrived at the SPCA in early January. He was adopted into a home with a pair of goons. In addition, this home took in Pops, ending his long-term fostership with Martine. You can see pics of Pops in Martine's Success Stories.

December 2004

  • Samuel François Souris, a really fun little mouse, went to his new home in London, ON, over the holidays.
  • Velvet Ears, renamed Virginia, a young, small, agouti-marked girl, was adopted to befriend an old neutered boy who was originally from the Massachusetts SPCA. She was chosen because she sounded similar to his old cagemate who'd passed away. She had been at the SPCA until her time was up.
  • Whimsy, a four-month old PEW originally from the Laval SPCA, has been adopted into a home with an escape-proof cage (the day she was adopted, she took a little capade around my apartment and buried herself in my box-spring mattress). She has five older sisters to keep on their toes!
  • Fawn and her mom Esmerelda were at the Kingston Humane Society since mid-September. They were picked up in mid-November to go to a foster home in Toronto, where they were named. They arrived in Montreal on December 3, and on December 5 they found their new home, where they befriended a single girl named Rosie.
  • Silky, so named for his lovely coat, is the last survivor from last May's abandonment situation that Sadie, John, and Silky's friend Phantom died from. I adopted him on December 3 to be a companion to my first rescue boy, Gomez. These two boys took to each other beautifully. When Gomez passed away on December 13, I gave Silky a few days of mourning, and then got him Gollum (here on the bottom), who came from a family on the South Shore. Gomez, Silky and Gollum all suffer from respiratory disease, which is common in rats and is the reason why their bedding and nutrition quality is so important. Silky's condition has always been the strongest, so that he does not need medication. He has been a good nurse to all of his cage mates.
  • Frisky and Nella, a sterile mated pair, were adopted into a home nearby with two humans and two old cats. They are happy and hyper.

November

  • Martine has adopted Mom, Laurel, Hardy, and Pops, all long-term fosters with her.
  • Girlie was found outside the Montreal SPCA and a smart volunteer caught her and brought her in. She has been adopted into a good home to befriend an ex-lab rat.

October

  • Bibitte, a Laval SPCA rescue, was adopted on Thanksgiving weekend by a rat lover in Stouffville, ON.

August

  • Snowdon, a young, beige-hooded male, is named after the metro station were Martine met his adopter (and fellow rescuer!) Cathy

July

  • Dr. Livingston was neutered and adopted into a "monkey motel" in Ottawa, where he's the alpha girl's cabaña boy
  • Little Apostrophe was adopted to go with a big sister in Montreal
  • Trotinette, after losing her sister Laitlait to a respiratory infection, was adopted into a home with two girls in Montreal
  • Nina was adopted into a home with four girls in Toronto, and she quickly and amicably negotiated shared alpha-ship

June 2004

  • Sandra and Susan were adopted by me (I fell in love with them!). They, along with Sadie and John, were my first rescues.
