Events!

Planned for 2006: a benefit concert (coming late fall/early winter), a garage and bake sale (done!), a raffle, and several adoption clinics. Keep an eye on the News page for more details.

Our Volunteer holiday party is on December 16, 6 pm. It is potluck, and we are having the raffle for the fundraiser and a raffle for the volunteers, too.

Lab blocks!

Hagen discontinued Nutriblocks in favour of their Extrusion blocks (yellow bag). Living World is a Hagen subsidiary. Their quality is reasonably good, but sometimes they are hard to find, so this minor fundraiser is designed to be of service to you. We purchase blocks from a variety of manufacturers that also supply laboratory companies - so the nutrition is complete, but varied. Hence, each 2 lb bag we sell usually contains a mix of two types of lab block. Each 2 lb bag costs $5, which is comparable to what you would pay in a store. We have not shipped before; however in Canada we can investigate the cost and send bags to you at your cost.

The proceeds of lab block sales are meant to recoup the cost of bedding, and the lab blocks we use feeding our own rats and some foster rats from time to time. In the past we have donated blocks we could spare to animal shelters where the rodents were undernourished or not receiving appropriate feed.

Hammocks!

Volunteer opportunity: if you have a sewing machine and skills and would like to make hammocks for us (expenses paid!), please help!

Cotton flannel on one side, fleece on the other, with loops and plastic hooks (revised: these hooks may have been discontinued…) to easily hang on the sides of your cage. Two sizes: small (2 rats) and large (5 - 6 rats).

Actually, as you can see, the large hammock is plenty large for a Martin's cage, and holds seven (six visible) big sleepy boys comfortably! (Note: the plastic hooks stretch out quicker when the hammock is this full of boys)
