| The Toronto Humane Society always has rats and mice in the adoption section right now (many more in foster). THS animals are treated for health problems only if it's easy to treat, otherwise, they will be euthanized. For these reasons, they are not wholly "safe," so to speak! They are mostly being kept in good conditions, with the exception that they aren't let out for exercise except perhaps with volunteers. The THS needs volunteers to cuddle the rats (yes, there is a rat-cuddling program). About 3-4 volunteers are needed, and you are only asked for 2 hours per week. Also, the more rat specialist volunteers there are, the more weight is given when they raise concerns about rat healthcare. See their Volunteer Opportunities section, where they have the title of "Rat Visitor." Their opening hours are Monday - Friday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. |
